Dutch quadruple-play provider VodafoneZiggo and Swedish technology partner Ericsson have announced that they are working together to increase the capacity of the Vodafone Netherlands mobile network using Ericsson’s 5G-ready radio equipment and the operator’s existing spectrum assets, to provide consumers higher mobile data speeds whilst enabling enterprises to benefit from the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) platforms including NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) and Cat-M1 (LTE-M) supporting a wide range of devices. In addition, Ericsson has been selected as sole supplier for Vodafone’s macro radio access network including 5G until the end of 2020. The managed services partnership between Ericsson and VodafoneZiggo – whereby Ericsson is responsible for network rollout, network design and optimisation, field services and core network deployment – will be extended to end-2020. Eben Albertyn, Executive Director of Technology at VodafoneZiggo, highlighted in a press release that the operator recently demonstrated a live mobile network test reaching 792Mbps.
