IP-Only secures EUR125m loan for fibre expansion

4 Oct 2017

Swedish open-access broadband provider IP-Only has secured a four-year EUR125 million (USD147 million) financial facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The loan – supplied via the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) – will enable the operator to expand its fibre-optic infrastructure to 400,000 Swedish households in urban and rural areas.

TeleGeography notes that IP-Only owns Metro Area Networks (MANs, locally known as stadsnats) in 43 locations across Sweden, including the largest MAN in Uppsala where it is headquartered. As of May 2017, IP-Only claimed to run/operate 450 fibre projects in urban/rural areas, including partnerships with the municipalities of Ale, Svalov, Skane, Askersund and Eskilstuna (all signed that month).
