LG Uplus conducts 5G urban field test with Huawei

13 Sep 2017

South Korean mobile network operator (MNO) LG Uplus has completed the first phase of its ‘5G intensive urban field test’ in partnership with Huawei in the Sangam area of Seoul. The trial was carried out using ‘an end-to-end 5G network with 5G gNodeB, Ng Core and a 5G mobile bearer network’, and reportedly encompassed coverage and capacity tests using spectrum in the 28GHz band. According to Huawei, downlink rates of 2.5Gbps were achieved over a distance of one kilometre in the test, while a peak rate of 18.5Gbps was recorded for a single user.

On the back of these results it was noted that the MNO will continue to work with Huawei to perform high and low frequency joint network tests, and provide continuous coverage networking and mobility tests, to help prepare for the 5G commercial launch.
