Japan’s J:COM taps Ericsson for next-gen TV service platform

13 Sep 2017

Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM), Japan’s largest cable system operator by subscribers, has selected Sweden’s Ericsson to supply it with a next generation TV service. Under the contract, Ericsson will supply J:COM with its MediaFirst TV Platform, which it claims will offer the cableco’s roughly 3.7 million customers with an enhanced, personalised multiscreen TV experience. The basic design phase will commence in Q4 2017, following which the pair say they will work to finalise the details of their development agreement. Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform is a software-defined, media-optimised cloud-based TV platform. It provides a converged multiscreen experience including pay-TV in-home, TV Everywhere and OTT services.
