TelCell launches LTE in Sint Maarten

5 Sep 2017

Sint Maarten-based TelCell, part of the TelEm Group, launched its long-awaited 4G LTE network on 1 September. The telco notes that the new service ‘has been through a series of configurations and tests to prepare it for the launch, and technicians and engineers are confident it will perform optimally once customers begin populating and using the network’.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, TelCell’s sole rival in the mobile sector, UTS Sint Maarten, seized technological pole position when it switched on its LTE network in November 2015. The USD15 million network was deployed by Huawei Caribbean and utilises the 1800MHz spectrum band.
