Safaricom to adopt Huawei’s E2E FTTH solution

25 Aug 2017

Kenyan ISP Safaricom will adopt Huawei’s end-to-end (E2E) fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) solution to rapidly deploy its FTTH network and expand its capability to new home broadband services by fully utilising existing metropolitan area network (MAN) optical cables and aerial cables. Through the synergy of fixed broadband optical distribution networks (ODN) and mobile backhaul networks, Safaricom will deploy mini optical line terminals (OLT) and wireless base stations in the same cabinet, thus greatly decreasing network construction costs. Further, Huawei’s operations support system (OSS) will help Safaricom reduce the system integration period and complete deployment to three months, down from 18 months.
