Viva taps Ericsson for 4G 4X4 MIMO rollout in Dom Rep

24 Aug 2017

Viva Dominicana has selected Ericsson to take charge of its 4X4 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) 4G upgrade in the Dominican Republic. Viva claims that the 4×4 MIMO deployment will increase spectral efficiency by delivering up to twice the downlink data rate without the need for additional spectrum. The contract forms part of a five-year end-to-end network modernisation project, which will also include the deployment of Ericsson’s revenue management products.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Viva accounted for just 317,093 subscribers at 31 March 2017, equivalent to a meagre 3.7% market share.
