Beeline significantly increases Moscow capacity with UMTS-900

18 Aug 2017

Russian cellco Beeline has announced the launch of 900MHz 3G UMTS network services in Moscow, which it says significantly increased capacity in the capital, providing improved voice and data service, whilst combined with Beeline’s upgraded 2100MHz network, 3G coverage of the city now reaches 98%. Beeline’s press release continued that in the long-run the 900MHz spectrum will be refarmed once more to bolster existing 4G LTE services via its Single RAN network architecture as its customers increasingly migrate to 4G devices. In Q2 2017 4G device sales among Moscow-based Beeline customers grew by 81% year-on-year. In the three months to the end of June Beeline’s 3G mobile internet traffic in Moscow increased 1.4 times y-o-y whilst 4G traffic grew by 2.5 times.
