Proximus now offering LTE-A Pro in seven cities

14 Aug 2017

Proximus, Belgium’s second largest cellco by subscribers, has extended the reach of its LTE Advanced Pro (LTE-A Pro) network, with the technology now confirmed as being available in seven cities, namely: Aalst, Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Leuven, Nieuwpoort and Sint-Niklaas. Looking ahead, Proximus – which is collaborating with Huawei, Sony and Samsung on the technology deployment – has said it expects to increase LTE-A Pro coverage ‘significantly in the coming weeks and months’.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in February 2017 Proximus began its 4.5G rollout in February in the cities of Antwerp, Charleroi and Ghent, revealing at the time that customers with compatible devices would be able to access download transmission speeds of up to 450Mbps. As part of its coverage update, the company has also now said it expects to be able to offer theoretical downlink rates of up to 900Mbps via its LTE-A Pro infrastructure.
