Number portability provider tender launched in Bangladesh

25 Jul 2017

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has invited providers of mobile number portability (MNP) services to submit applications in a tender to be decided via a beauty contest method – with the candidates’ offers evaluated according to criteria including their technical proposals and financial strength. As reported by the Daily Star, interested parties have until 23 August 2017 to apply; a single winner will be chosen to receive a 15-year licence, and must implement a MNP system within 180 days of licensing.

The regulator had previously planned an open auction for MNP provider licensing for September 2016, but it was called off.
