Tele2 Netherlands: night time 2600MHz switch-offs save energy

19 Jul 2017

Tele2 Netherlands regularly shuts down the 2600MHz frequency component of its mobile network for several hours each night to save energy, leaving only the 800MHz band functioning, resulting in significant drops in data speeds in certain areas, reports Dutch-based Telecompaper, quoting the cellco’s confirmation of its operational practices on customer forums. The night time data rate drop is particularly noticeable in outlying areas, where the network has relatively few users and daytime speeds are especially high.
