Cyta launches LTE-A network with 525Mbps downlink

Cypriot telecoms provider Cyta has commercially deployed an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in all urban centres and main tourist areas of the Republic of Cyprus. The network (dubbed ‘4.5G’) offers speeds of up to 525Mbps, with an option to increase the throughput to 700Mbps in the future. The operator has deployed 50 base transceiver stations (BTS) supporting the technology. Chrysis Phiniotis, Senior Director of Technology and Information at Cyta, also disclosed that the company has extended 3G coverage to 99.5% of the Cypriot population and territory, while 4G coverage has reached 75%.
