C Spire boosts speeds in 40 cities with 2500MHz CA

15 Jun 2017

Mississippi-based regional wireless operator C Spire has announced that it has introduced carrier aggregation (CA) across its networks in 40 cities using the 2500MHz spectrum band. The cellco began rolling out the enhancements in March, starting with selected areas in Cleveland, Collins, Columbus, Greenville, Hattiesburg, Laurel and Louisville, Mississippi. Further enhancements are anticipated between now and October. Alan Jones, senior vice president of Network Engineering and Development, noted that cities, towns and rural areas that are expected to benefit most include the Mississippi Delta, north-east Mississippi, central parts of the state, south Mississippi and portions of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

TeleGeography notes that the introduction of 2500MHz 4G frequencies means that C Spire is now offering LTE services using four different frequency bands. The cellco’s original LTE network was launched in September 2012 using the 1900MHz band, and it went on to introduce 700MHz and 850MHz spectrum in 2016, to deliver so-called ‘Maximum Range LTE’ technology which covers longer distances with fewer cell sites.
