Three completes UK Broadband acquisition

1 Jun 2017

British mobile network operator (MNO) Three UK said it has completed the acquisition of UK Broadband Limited, which provides wireless home and business broadband services in Central London and Swindon under the ‘Relish’ banner. In confirming the development, Three noted that it expects there to be ‘no immediate changes’ to Relish’s wireless broadband operations or brand, with the latter continuing to manage its 17,000 home and business customers. Looking ahead, Three has said it intends to issue an update later this year regarding its future plans for UK Broadband ‘as it focuses its attention on the upcoming auction of mobile spectrum by … Ofcom’.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in February 2017 Three agreed to pay GBP250 million (USD321 million) for the wireless broadband operator, which at the time was owned by PCCW, the holding company of Hong Kong-based HKT Group Holdings Limited. Further, under the terms of the deal a deferred GBP50 million will be made available as a credit toward an MVNO agreement on Three’s network, with this effectively paving the way for PCCW to launch a mobile service for its corporate telecoms customers in the UK.
