Volia gobbles up Airbites

30 May 2017

Volia – Ukraine’s largest cableco by subscribers, revenue and coverage – has purchased the assets of smaller operator Airbites, enabling it to further strengthen its position in the cities of Lviv, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, Kharkiv and Lutsk as well as expand its presence in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a press release on the company website announced. Volia says that it will switch existing Airbites subscribers to its brand next month, whilst from July it plans to offer the newly acquired customer base the full range of Volia-branded high speed cable internet packages, interactive TV with 150 channels and the Volia TV multi-screen mobile device application.

According to news site BizLiga, the previous owners of Airbites, Northern Light Ventures and Euroventures Ukraine Fund II, had been looking for a buyer for several years. The report adds that Airbites serves approximately 40,000 subscribers in seven regions, whilst sources with knowledge of the deal claim that the transaction is worth around USD2 million.
