Hong Kong fixed and mobile operator HKT has launched the market’s first 600Mbps LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, boosting its peak theoretical speed from the previous maximum of 450Mbps. The firm says it is using tri-carrier aggregation (3C) across three 20MHz spectrum blocks and 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (256QAM) to achieve peak downlink speeds of 600Mbps and uplink speeds of 50Mbps. HKT commercially launched Hong Kong’s first LTE-A 300Mbps network in 2014, and the territory’s first IP-RAN-based LTE-A 450Mbps network in 2016.
