Argentina’s ENACOM invites bidders for 2.5GHz spectrum

17 May 2017

Argentina’s National Entity for Communications (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones, ENACOM) has initiated a tender process for spectrum in the 2500MHz-2690MHz (2.5GHz) frequency range, it has been confirmed. The tender, which was included in the ‘Boletin Oficial’ on 11 May, as Resolucion 3687-E/2017, will comprise a combination of frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) spectrum.

As part of the licence conditions, successful applicants for the FDD blocks must launch 2.5GHz networks in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires, CABA) within twelve months; cover the Area Metropolitana Buenos Aires (AMBA) within 18 months; and launch in all provincial capitals (as well as the cities of Mar del Plata, Bahia Blanca and Rosario) within 24 months. TDD spectrum, meanwhile, has looser rollout obligations, with a four-year deployment timeframe stipulated. All licences will be valid for a period of 15 years. Bids will be reviewed on 30 May.
