US Virgin Islands-based telecoms operators Innovative Telephone and Choice Wireless have confirmed that they have successfully integrated their respective operations, forming a new company called Viya in the process. The new brand was unveiled on 19 April, with CEO Alvaro Pilar commenting: ‘For the last ten months, our teams worked diligently to merge two local companies that have been committed to providing telephone, cable TV, wireless, high speed data and business solutions to our community for decades into a new cohesive, customer-centric organisation.’
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in July 2016 Massachusetts-based ATN International (formerly Atlantic Tele-Network) announced that it had closed its acquisition of Caribbean Asset Holdings, the holding company for the Innovative group of companies. ATN agreed to acquire the company from the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC) in October 2015. ATN paid a purchase price of approximately USD145 million.
