Tele2 Eesti adds 2300MHz frequencies as it looks to 4.5G and 5G

20 Apr 2017

Estonian cellco Tele2 Eesti says it has acquired additional spectrum which will boost its resources to support future 4.5G and 5G services. The operator has acquired frequencies in the 2300MHz band, adding to its existing holdings at 450MHz, 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 3500MHz. The firm says it plans to use the new spectrum to improve its bandwidth in major cities such as Tallinn, Tartu, Parnu and Narva, paving the way for 1Gbps mobile services over 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro (LTE-A Pro) and 5G technologies. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tele2 is the smallest of Estonia’s three wireless operators, with around 26% of the overall market at the end of 2016. The firm claims 4G LTE coverage of 96% of the population.
