Slovenia gets first VoLTE service

30 Mar 2017

Telekom Slovenije says it has become the first Slovenian operator to implement voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology, allowing customers to make voice calls using its 4G LTE network. The service has been rolled out in collaboration with Apple, with VoLTE initially only available to subscribers with Apple iPhone 6 or 7 devices. The telco says that VoLTE allows for the simultaneous use of voice and data transmission, faster call setup, improved sound quality – with the default use of HD voice – and less battery consumption. Telekom Slovenije says it is also in the final stages of testing voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) technology. The firm, which claims 4G coverage of 98% of Slovenia’s population, controlled just over half of all mobile users in the country at the end of 2016, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
