SBB given conditional approval for IKOM takeover

24 Mar 2017

Serbian anti-trust watchdog the Commission for the Protection of Competition (Komisija za Zastitu Konkurencije, KZK) has conditionally approved the acquisition of cable-based triple-play provider Interaktivne Kablovske Objedinjene Mreze (IKOM) by Serbia Broadband (SBB). In its ruling, KZK noted that it granted approval subject to certain conditions on the basis that the strengthening of a dominant position would only occur in the retail market of media content distribution services. KZK will require SBB to sell secondary network infrastructure in Belgrade where there are overlaps between the two company’s footprints, and SBB must offer current IKOM customers options to change their subscriptions. Finally, for two years following the takeover, SBB will be obliged to provide regular reporting to the watchdog on potential changes in retail prices for media content services provided by its basic package, including ‘the causes and intensity’ of related changes.
