New Somali operator Somnet launches 4G in Mogadishu

Somnet Telecom, a new operator based in south and central Somalia, has announced the launch of a 4G LTE network in the capital Mogadishu. The company is offering a variety of mobile voice and internet plans for both private and business customers, as well as ‘Bulaal’ pre-paid packages of voice minutes, SMS and data. Data tariffs range in price from USD1 for an allowance of 500MB (valid for 30 days) to USD100 for 100GB (90 days).

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that a number of telecoms operators are offering 4G LTE services in the region, including Somtel International and Telesom, both of which are based in Somaliland, while Globalsom and Sahal Telecom have launched time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) networks in Mogadishu.
