Telecom Namibia (TN), in conjunction with Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies, has reportedly completed the first phase of its anticipated time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) deployment. All Africa quotes TN managing director Theo Klein as saying that Huawei’s end-to-end 4G solution has been deployed at the coastal cities of Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and the smaller beach resort of Langstrand. The upgrade was necessitated by the growing demand for higher throughput speeds from corporate customers, Klein noted. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the network supersedes the telco’s 2600MHz WiMAX network, which went live in March 2007.
