Digicel inks upgrade deal with Affirmed Networks

1 Mar 2017

Pan-Caribbean telecoms group Digicel has enlisted Affirmed Networks to deploy its virtualised Mobile Content Cloud (MCC) solution across the operator’s entire footprint. The US-based vendor announced the deal in a press release yesterday, noting that the solution will form a cornerstone of the operator’s ‘Digicel 2030’ global transformation programme – which aims to provide end users with a ‘superior superfast network experience’ – by providing a 5G-ready, virtualised architecture that paves the way for a smooth transition to LTE today and 5G ‘in the near future.’

According to Affirmed Networks, Digicel recognised the inflexibility of its legacy solutions to improve network capacity across its diverse markets in the Caribbean and Asia Pacific regions. Affirmed Networks’ fully-virtualised MCC solution, however, will enable Digicel to deploy a distributed virtualised network to deliver consumer, enterprise and Internet of Things (IoT) services across dispersed geographies, providing the flexibility required to meet the changing needs of each market. The rollout will allow Digicel to flexibly tailor services based on the needs of each individual market, and to centrally manage the services being delivered to the more than 31 countries in the group’s coverage area. Further, the overall operational expense and complexity associated with managing the network across its extensive footprint will be significantly reduced through service automation.
