Swedish telecoms operator Telia Company has played down speculation that it is planning a bid for Denmark’s leading telco by subscribers YouSee (TDC), reports Reuters. According to sources familiar with the matter, a potential merger with its Danish counterpart was not currently on the agenda for Telia as it would face a number of legal, financial and political obstacles, and would face tough scrutiny by antitrust regulators. When announcing Telia Company’s financial results last week, President and CEO Johan Dennelind said: ‘When it comes to Denmark, as of now we don’t see risk and valuation as attractive for a larger acquisition in Denmark and will continue to review our strategic options,’ but noted that the company sees it as ‘highly probable’ that its Eurasian assets will be disposed during 2017.
