Orange faces bill for 450MHz renewal in Poland

20 Jan 2017

Polish fixed and mobile operator Orange Polska has been told it must pay PLN115 million (USD27.5 million) to renew its licence in the 450MHz band for a further 15 years. Telecoms regulator the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has given the firm 14 days to decide whether or not it wants to retain its concession, Rzeczpospolita writes, with reports suggesting that the telco does not agree with UKE’s valuation. Orange uses the 450MHz spectrum to offer CDMA fixed-wireless services for users in rural areas. It had just 27,000 CDMA subscribers at the end of September 2016, down 60% year-on-year.
