9 Jan 2017

Bangladeshi alternative fixed line provider RanksTel has relaunched its operations with fibre connections offering internet access speeds of up to 1Gbps and voice telephony in the capital Dhaka, the Daily Star reports. At a ceremony attended by State Minister for Telecom Tarana Halim, RanksTel’s CEO SM Ashikur Rahman said: ‘This is the fastest internet service in Bangladesh as far as I know … We have already ensured 100 PoPs in the capital with the latest technology.’ RanksTel director Romo Rouf Chowdhury added: ‘Our vision is to become the largest internet player in the country. And to achieve that target we are offering the fastest internet service with voice.’ The operator is initially offering its new fibre internet services only to corporate clients in Dhaka, but plans to make the 1Gbps-capable connections available for consumers in the next two to three months.

RanksTel’s website says that home or office subscribers to the new gigabit fibre service will able to customise the speed of their connection according to requirements, whilst confirming that it currently provides fibre access to large corporations, businesses and Wi-Fi zones, supported by its three data centres in Motijheel, Gulshan and Kawran Bazar.
