T-Mobile US approaches 1Gbps speeds over existing LTE network

3 Jan 2017

In a post on the company’s official blog, T-Mobile US chief technology officer Neville Ray has revealed that the operator recently achieved downlink transmission speeds of close to 1Gbps using its existing LTE network. On 29 December Mr. Ray wrote: ‘Just last week we reached nearly 1Gbps (979Mbps) on our LTE network in our lab, thanks to a combination of [tri-band] carrier aggregation (3C), 4×4 MIMO and 256 QAM (and an unreleased handset). This is the fastest speed possible on a mobile device today, and T-Mobile will absolutely be first to [offer] Gigabit speeds!’
