The Costa Rican authorities hope to take advantage of the national road network to install underground fibre-optic ducts, La Nacion reports. The draft proposal has been tabled by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT), and brought to the attention of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT). According to the news site, the guidelines set out by the draft proposal would see the MOPT obliged to provide for the installation of fibre ducts when designing all new roads. Edwin Estrada, the country’s deputy telecoms minister, hopes to finalise the plan in 2017, the report added.
