MASMOVIL strikes deal with Telefonica relating to Yoigo, Pepephone

15 Dec 2016

Spain’s Grupo MASMOVIL has struck a deal with Telefonica Espana (Movistar) relating to two of the former’s subsidiaries, Pepe Mobile (Pepephone) and Xfera Moviles (Yoigo), the latter of which it acquired from Telia Company in October 2016. In a press release Grupo MASMOVIL has confirmed that the agreement with Telefonica specifies the terms under which the latter will provide national roaming services to Yoigo during the period in which it migrates to using Orange Espana’s network in those areas where it does not have its own infrastructure. In addition, the agreement also covers the provision of national roaming services for Pepephone by Telefonica.

Meanwhile, the deal includes the resolution of existing legal conflicts between Yoigo and Telefonica, with Grupo MASMOVIL confirming that Yoigo will pay Telefonica EUR11.1 million (USD11.8 million) relating to such matters, a figure it noted was significantly lower than had been sought by the latter company.
