Vodafone Ireland earmarks EUR250m for network upgrade

16 Nov 2016

Mobile operator Vodafone Ireland is reportedly setting aside EUR250 million (USD268.8 million) to upgrade its network infrastructure across the Republic in 2016/17, pushing total CAPEX over the past four years toward the EUR800 million mark. The cellco’s CEO Anne O’Leary confirmed the spend, saying that her company is ‘committed to driving the agenda for a gigabit society for Ireland’ via a network and IT transformation programme. Speaking at the announcement of the operator’s six-month financial results (ending 30 September 2016), Ms. O’Leary said: ‘Our performance in this quarter continues a positive upward momentum across the business and reflects both the ongoing strength of our core mobile and broadband business, as well as the growth across our converged service offerings.’ Vodafone Ireland booked a 1.6% year-on-year increase in service revenue to EUR484 million.
