PT Portugal (MEO) and Chinese equipment vendor Huawei have achieved maximum downloads speeds of 1.7Gbps while demonstrating ‘4.5G’ LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) Pro technology. The demo involved aggregating five carrier frequencies using 4×4 MIMO and 256QAM platforms. Further, NGPON2 technology, developed by Altice Labs in Aveiro, was also used to support connectivity between mobile base transceiver stations (BTS) and the core network. Alexandre Fonseca, CTO of PT, noted that the demo reinforces its commitment to developing and investing in new technological solutions, such as 5G.
