Telia to expand super-fast fibre broadband in 2017

3 Nov 2016

Swedish telco Telia has announced plans to extend its high speed fibre broadband network to a further 15,000 single-dwelling households in 16 municipalities across the country next year. Telia will invest a potential SEK12 billion (USD1.3 billion) between 2015 and 2018 as it continues its rollout of super-fast fibre broadband, and has switched its focus towards single dwelling homes and businesses from the previous concentration on multi-dwelling buildings and offices.

Some of the major areas earmarked for super-fast network expansion include Norrtalje (approximately 4,150 homes), Haninge (3,250 homes and businesses), Gothenburg (roughly 1,600 households) and Gnesta (around 1,200 homes). The new technology will provide residents and businesses with internet speeds of up to 1Gbps, with the expansion expected to begin in February 2017 and estimated to be completed eight months later, in September.
