KPN begins VoLTE rollout

1 Nov 2016

Dutch telecoms operator KPN has announced that it has begun deploying voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services to its customers. According to the company, the 4G voice technology will provide customers with fast call set-up, high-definition (HD) sound quality and a maintained 4G internet connection throughout the call. KPN will begin a phased deployment of VoLTE services after completing initial tests with Samsung (currently enabling KPN customers with Samsung S6 and S6-Edge devices to make VoLTE calls) and in the coming months more devices will support the new technology.

KPN dominates the wireless market in the Netherlands, with almost half (49.8%) of mobile subscribers belonging to its network in June 2016, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
