Swiss trio agree to lower MTRs

20 Oct 2016

Switzerland’s three mobile providers – Swisscom, Salt and Sunrise – have negotiated to lower mobile termination rates (MTRs), effective from 1 January 2017. The new structure maintains the asymmetry in MTR between Swisscom and its smaller two competitors: at present, Swisscom charges CHF0.0595 (USD0.0601) per minute whilst Salt and Sunrise both charge CHF0.0735 per minute. From 1 January 2017, the MTR charged by Salt and Sunrise will drop by 41% to CHF0.0430, before lowering to CHF0.0390 from 1 January 2018 and CHF0.0350 twelve months after that. Swisscom, meanwhile, will lower its MTR to CHF0.0310, then CHF0.0295 and CHF0.0280 over the same period.
