Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has inked an expansion and upgrade contract with Swedish vendor Ericsson covering its operations in the Caribbean and Panama. The programme is expected to be completed in November 2016 and features increasing site capacity to meet growing traffic demands, as well as hardware and software upgrades to improve performance. The project will also facilitate the implementation of carrier aggregation (CA) and allow for the addition of small cells.
Commenting on the deal, CWC Executive VP Carlo Alloni was quoted as saying: ‘We are happy to once again partner with Ericsson in this network expansion project across all of our markets. Considering the clear trend in the growth of subscribers, mobile data and smartphone usage, C&W’s key objective is to deploy a mobile network with world-class quality, performance and operational convenience in order to exceed our customers’ expectations.’
