PT Portugal, Nos ink upgrade contracts with Huawei

12 Oct 2016

PT Portugal (MEO) and Chinese telecoms vendor Huawei have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the optimisation and upgrade of the telco’s wireless networks. According to Portuguese press reports, the MoU, which was signed in Beijing, principally relates to MEO’s planned adoption of LTE+ and 5G technologies, alongside its activities within the Internet of Things (IoT) sector.

The MoU closely follows the inking of a contract in Shenzen, between Huawei and another Portuguese telco, Nos. Billed as a ‘strategic partnership’, the pact will see the Chinese firm extend their existing relationship to cover the IoT, next-generation broadband, video services, software-defined networking (SDN), virtualisation, data centres and integrated business solutions.
