PEOPLEnet reduces CDMA coverage to just four regions

12 Oct 2016

From 15 October 2016 Ukrainian CDMA-based mobile network operator PEOPLEnet will reduce its network coverage from seven to four regions (oblasts), namely Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Kharkiv and Kiev (although excluding the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kiev oblast), reports BizLiga. The disconnected oblasts are Poltava, Kherson and Donetsk, as the company continues the ‘optimisation’ of its services; TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that on 1 September 2015 PEOPLEnet’s mobile CDMA2000 1xEV-DO wireless voice/data services were shut down in 18 of its then-25 regions, for the stated reason that these oblasts did not generate enough revenue to justify the cost of network maintenance.
