Tiscali taps Huawei for TD-LTE

26 Sep 2016

Italian ISP Tiscali has signed a EUR40 million (USD45 million) deal with equipment vendor Huawei for the rollout of a time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) network operating in the 3.5GHz band. The network will offer broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps, scalable to 1Gbps in future, and will eventually cover 13 million households across Italy. Last year Tiscali merged with Italian wireless broadband provider Aria, which previously used WiMAX technology but had signalled its intention to shift to TD-LTE systems. The two firms serve a combined 530,000 subscribers.
