TFL switches on 4G+ network using APT700 spectrum

19 Sep 2016

Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) has launched its ‘Connect 4G+’ network across the country, saying that the decision to use APT700 spectrum in the 698MHz-806MHz band allows it to leverage the improved coverage characteristics afforded by the lower frequencies. TFL is the first company in the South Pacific region to use APT700 spectrum for TD-LTE, which it says typically offers three times the coverage spread of the other frequencies offered by mobile operator Vodafone – which is already offering LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) to 65% of the population. TFL says its delay in getting to market was in part the result of issues in securing end user router/modem devices at affordable prices.
