High Court overrules regulator’s notice telling CityCell users to switch

9 Sep 2016

Bangladesh’s High Court yesterday overruled the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) which had issued two notices on 31 July and 17 August advising users of indebted CDMA operator CityCell to switch to other mobile providers, following a petition from CityCell. As reported by BDNews24, CityCell’s counsel Mostafizur Rahman said the court issued a rule over the notices and sought explanations: ‘According to the Telecommunications Act, the BTRC has no jurisdiction to issue such public notices.’ CityCell faces imminent closure for non-payment of government dues.
