Beeline launches 450MHz fixed-wireless network across Armenia

5 Sep 2016

Armenian PTO ArmenTel, which offers services under the Beeline brand of its Russian parent VimpelCom, has announced the nationwide launch of a modernised fixed-wireless 450MHz telephony network under the name Hi-Fly. The new service offers a high speed option, including internet access, even to residential users outside the reach of traditional wired infrastructure. The carrier hopes the launch of Hi-Fly will ensure that more Armenians can receive a high-quality, stable internet service even in rural areas. ArmenTel is supplying Hi-Fly subscribers with a powerful router with a wide Wi-Fi radius and the opportunity of simultaneous connection of smartphones, computers, tablets, notebooks etc. Peak download speeds of up to 1Mbps are being offered, with a monthly rental of AMD2,990 (USD6.30). The national launch announcement follows a limited rollout in May this year in which a 450MHz fixed-wireless service was switched on in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province – today reportedly delivering peak speeds of up to 10Mbps.
