CWC taps Ericsson, Cisco for Caribbean IP backbone upgrades

31 Aug 2016

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), the pan-Caribbean telecoms group now owned by UK-based Liberty Global, has enlisted vendor duo Ericsson and Cisco to supply and install IP networks in three Caribbean markets where the company operates, specifically: its ‘Flow’ branded operations in Jamaica and Barbados, and regional neighbour Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC). The plans include an upgrade to the IP backbone network in the Bahamas to improve performance and support an increase of traffic, and a new business-to-business (B2B) IP/MPLS network in Jamaica and Barbados. As part of the partnership Cisco will provide the necessary hardware, while Ericsson will provide project management services. The contract forms part of CWC’s wider investment plan for the region to continue transforming its customer experience.
