CityCell, the Bangladeshi CDMA mobile operator facing closure for non-payment of government dues, has been given a temporary reprieve by the High Court, reports BDNews24.com. The court order yesterday allows CityCell to continue operations until 16 September, after the cellco – part-owned by Singapore’s Singtel – sought a stay order on the government’s intended process to cancel its spectrum and operating licence. Bangladesh’s telecoms ministry had aimed to shut down CityCell on 23 August, but having secured the stay order, the struggling operator reportedly claims that it has an arrangement in place with an investment firm to pay off its dues.
