life:) goes live with LTE in Minsk

9 Aug 2016

Mobile operator Belarusian Telecommunications Network (BeST), which provides services under the brand name life:), has announced the commercial launch of its LTE network in the capital Minsk, joining mobile market leader MTS Belarus, which kicked off its commercial offering in December 2015. The company is offering a one-month free trial of the new data service, which supports maximum download speeds of 112Mbps. To take advantage of the higher speeds, customers require a 4G-enabled device (smartphone, tablet or modem) and SIM card, and must be located within the cellco’s LTE coverage area.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that LTE infrastructure provider Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) is responsible for rolling out a common 4G network that can be used by life:) and its two competitors, MTS Belarus and velcom. By the end of the year, beCloud intends to introduce LTE at 2600MHz to augment the 1800MHz-based services currently on offer, while it also plans to extend coverage to the regional cities of Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev.
