Thai cable group CTH shutting down in September

5 Aug 2016

Cable Thai Holding (CTH), the loss-ridden pay-TV operating group led by investor Wichai Thongtang, has announced that it is shutting down its services on 1 September 2016, saying it can no longer withstand the effects of economic slowdown, the Bangkok Post writes. CTH had run up losses of almost THB20 billion (USD572 million), and had been making redundancies. The group had failed to attract anywhere near the level of cable and satellite TV subscriber growth it had been aiming for, whilst proposals for entering the broadband internet market had not come to fruition.
