Irancell launches TD-LTE to replace WiMAX

5 Aug 2016

MTN Irancell has launched its first time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) services, with coverage in 25 provinces and major cities such as Mashhad, Qazvin, Qom, Zahedan, Kerman, Arak, Ardabil and Urmia, Techrasa reports. The firm had previously rolled out WiMAX wireless broadband networks, but last year decided to phase out the technology and replace it with faster TD-LTE equipment. As well as its fixed-wireless internet services, Irancell offers 3G mobile connectivity in 1,040 areas and 4G LTE services in 240 areas. It counted 46.6 million cellular subscribers at the end of March 2016.
