FCC: 62 bidders for 600MHz auction

19 Jul 2016

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has confirmed that 62 bidders have made the upfront payments necessary to participate in the 600MHz Broadcast Television Spectrum Incentive Auction (‘Auction 1002’), which is set to begin on 16 August. As expected, mobile giants Verizon Wireless (bidding as Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless), AT&T Mobility (AT&T Spectrum Holdings) and T-Mobile US will all participate, while Sprint Corp will sit out the process. Notable regional US operators C Spire Wireless (bidding as Cellular South Licenses) and US Cellular are both registered to participate, as are a number of companies representing the unincorporated US territories, such as DOCOMO Pacific (Guam/Northern Marianas Islands), Puerto Rico Telephone Company (Puerto Rico) and GTA (Guam – bidding as TeleGuam Holdings). Industry sources have observed that cable giant Comcast will be bidding under the CC Wireless name, while satellite TV firm DISH Network will bid as ParkerB.com Wireless.
