Vodafone Ireland, in association with Swedish vendor Ericsson, has addressed increasing demand for uplink by implementing what it claims is ‘Europe’s fastest uplink speeds in commercial network’. The upgrade, which uses uplink carrier aggregation (CA) and 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation, achieved uplink speeds of 136Mbps over Vodafone Ireland’s commercial network in Dublin.
The improved functionality was achieved using 40MHz of frequency division-LTE (FD-LTE) spectrum (two 20MHz channels) alongside 64 QAM modulation. The companies say that the result represents a 200% improvement compared to the cellco’s current uplink performance, with the ability to deliver peak throughput speeds of up to 150Mbps. The demonstration also featured the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with X12 LTE, Ericsson noted.
