Sweden holding 700MHz auction in December; 1800MHz sale in October

5 Jul 2016

Sweden’s National Post & Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen – PTS) announced yesterday that it is holding a spectrum auction for 2×30MHz in the 700MHz band on 1 December 2016, with an application deadline of 1 November 2016. 700MHz licences are technology/service neutral, with nationwide coverage. The licensing blocks on offer consist of four 2×5MHz allocations plus one 2×10MHz block, the latter carrying specific coverage requirements for voice and broadband services in underserved areas of the country. Licences are valid from 1 April 2017 until 31 December 2039. Each participant in the 700MHz auction may purchase a maximum of 2×20MHz.

Ahead of the 700MHz contest, the PTS is also auctioning 2×5MHz of tech-neutral frequencies in the 1800MHz band on 24 October 2016, with a deadline for applications set at 10 October. The minimum bid price is SEK40 million (USD4.7 million) for the 1800MHZ concession, which is valid from 1 June 2017 until 31 December 2027.
